Has anyone used an oil filter that one can buy in regular automtive store?

If so which one did you find to work the best?
Thanks for the help.

Hi,

I use the NAPA Gold #1521 (manuf. by Wix) which I believe is the same Wix mentioned previously by Doc. Hess, only under the NAPA name - $4. Happy Motoring! ...Jim'85TE

Jim, I have your filter recommendation documented on my list of substitutions:

http://home.flash.net/~hess/crystal_princess.htm

along with a couple of other substitutions people have used, such as the Mobil-1 204.

Doc,

Cool! I always wanted to be immortalized in print..., but it states not confirmed. I have been using this filter with no ill effects for more than 6 years as have several fellow Esprit owners, so I'm guessing it's ok. Happy Motoring! ...Jim'85TE

Hey Jim,
By "Confirmed" I mean that I have personally held it in my hand, looked at it next to the OEM part and used it (successfully) on my own car. Rather a high standard for "confirmed" status, but that's the way I designed my table. I am sure your filter recommendation is correct, I just haven't used it myself.

Here's another one to add to the list. I've been using them without any problems on mine for the last year.

K&N oil filter #HP-2004

I buy them at Checker Auto for ~$10.

I'll add your K&N to my list, Bill. BTW, you can go to the Phram web site and the WIX web site and run cross references for virtually all brands made. The WIX I use croses to a Volvo. I have exactly which Volvo written down somewhere.

For my G-type (87 turbo), I have been using Phram PH-16. Works perfect.
