Really? Because that would mean it took over 20years for the price to double whereas between 2004 and now it's took around 7years to double.

Think it was in 1993 (ish) I recall paying 45p per litre to fill my 6.6 Trans Am. Happy days, working part time for £65 per week and putting £60 in the tank. The joys of living with your folks.

I'd say '81. I think the BP/409/81 may be a year code.

Plus, going by the figures this guy has complied would be a about right.

What is it in real terms though? If it was 32p a litre in 1981 and its 1.30 now whats the 32p equivilant to?

Surely not much difference?

I started driving in 97 and iirc it was around 57p a litre.

£0.32p in 1981 is the equivalent of £1.08 now.

http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/bills/article-1... refers.

So really the price in real terms hasn't gone up that much really. Of course 108 would be nice now but unless your doing faily reasonable mileage i dont think its that bad.

I passed my test in 2002 and i remember my first trip to the petrol station on my own, it was 72.9p (which was quite low compared to a couple of years previously, protest etc)

Today, 10 years on that same garage is charging 135.9

IIRC when I passed my test in 1971 petrol was around 37p a gallon.
And when it reached the dizzy heights of 50p a gallon we were all going to give up drivingweeping
(That's 4.54 litres for all you youngsterssmile)
