No, you were't alone. I went down after work and enjoyed the atmosphere although like you didn't see very much. The noise was unbelievable! Mrs Hui went down earlier in the afternoon & saw Nigel Mansell, Jenson Button, David Coulthard and Martin Brundle in Waterloo Place before taking up residence in front of a large TV screen in Hanover Square!
Despite the crowds we also got a couple of pints of Youngs in The Guinea in Bruton Place before discovering a F1 Jaguar, and a Le Mans Jaguar XJR on display in Berkley Square where an after parade party was in full swing! Unfortunately we couldn't blag our way in!!!

I went along and was lucky enough to have a perfect view from one of the balconies just by the Evening Post Loop part of the circuit....free wine and champagne all evening!!! Got some excellent footage on my camcorder with some good F1 burnouts down Regent St.
The noise was amazing....somehow I can't see Ken having a London Grand Prix though..

I was there outside Cheers on Regent Street, I thought it was good though it depends what expectations you had of the parade. I turnewd up at 5 15pm and managed to get within 3 rows deep to see the cars. Theres only so much you can do for a 'parade' without escalating costs in removing traffic lights, bollards, providing grandstands etc together with finding room for people and retaining safety margins, considering it was free.
Managed to capture some of the action from the roof top of a six storey building on video, from Waterloo Place (pits/start) to Piccadilly Circus. Got all the doughnuts except one I think.

Montoya’s Doughnut was definitely the most impressive.
