As per the below link, I've read that ex-Woolworths employees are due a redundancy pay out:

http://www.usdaw.org.uk/newsevents/news/2012/jan/u...

Along with everyone else, I made a claim, filling in the same options as everyone else on the claim form, for not being paid my notice period.

I could do with some advice re. this. I worked for the company for 3 years as a manager in a distribution centre. I was not part of the Union. Am I right in thinking that irrespective of me not being a member that I am still entitled to a pay out?

Various websites seem to be quoting that Usdaw have won a payment for "their members", therefore finding in the favour of Usdaw's case that Woolworths had not acted lawfully in respect of the consultation process. Again, I'm guessing that this is uniform, regardless of me being non-union, and therefore I'm entitled to a pay out?

Finally, I've read that those entitled to a pay out will be sent a form. The trouble is I've moved several times since I made the claim. Who do I contact? I think the claim was made to courts in Manchester.

ETA: Thankfully I have a claim reference number and acknowledgement of my claim and ET1 form the Manchester Redundancy Office.

Thanks,

The article (as well as the one on the BBC) certainly says that USDAW have won compensation for "their members" but this was as a result of failing to consult with employee representatives which would affect all employees at locations where there were more than 20 people employed.

You have nothing to lose by contacting the Redundancy Payment Office (RPO) regarding your claim.

AIUI this is what is known as a "Protective Award" which is to compensate all employees for failure to adequately consult prior to redundancy, i.e. the breach of a Statutory Right.

It has nothing to do with TU membership, they simply fought the case.
