Hi there,

Just wondering if anyone an help on a tax issue/payment problem.

I have a job at the moment and they sort my tax out with my salary. If I were to do a few hours of work for someone else how would I sort the tax issue and would my employer see that I have additional earnings?

Hope the above makes sence!

Thanks in advance!

If the other job is under the PAYE system, then the other employer should tax you on that basis.

Sometimes people are hired on a "self employed" basis. If that is the case, the individual is legally obliged to contact HMRC and notify them that they are now self employed and will need to complete a self assessment tax return.

However, most people who take on second jobs should really be handled as proper employees and should be taxed through PAYE.

Thanks for the reply.

It would I presume be on a "self employed" basis as it's only a couple of evenings work....

Just wondering if it's worth the effort if it's going to be major ballache....

Best to check the basis. Doing a Tax Return takes about an hour at the most, you'll need your P60, and statements for any bank accounts you've earnt interest on.

No, they wouldn't.

There is such a thing as a part time employee. Just because you are working only a few hours does not mean yiou are self employed.
