Most powerful n/a Rover V8 TVR on the road?
Discussion
As per the title really... I wondered what's the most anyone has dyno'd a naturally aspirated Rover V8 powered TVR at? Specifically, I'm thinking of road cars that are in relatively regular use, rather than competition specials.
As I understand it the 'bog power' club for naturally aspirated Rover V8s starts at a little over 300bhp in the real world. But how many people are running significantly more than that?

I've driven a Chim 500 whose dyno reading showed 368bhp, but I didn't enjoy driving it. It was a bit Jekyll and Hyde. I drove it for 4 miles out, then 4 miles back. Perhaps I would have enjoyed it more once better acquainted. As I understand it the 'bog power' club for naturally aspirated Rover V8s starts at a little over 300bhp in the real world. An Eales 5.0 on throttle bodies will run around 370-380 bhp, loads of torque and be a pussycat to drive unless you stamp on the loud pedal. You just have to get used to driving on about 10mm of pedal travel!
Bigger CCs tend to give similar power levels but more torque...meaning less revs needed.
The heads seem to be the limiting factor, which is why blowers/turbos are needed to generate more. I've been told the heads cant flow more then 400bhp, you can get that from a 5.0 but you have to run to 7800rpm! Had 404 from my Eales 5.0, but I had no accs (electric water, race alternator/oils etc) so a bit of a fudge for joining the 400club
Pretty feisty with 370/400lbft though.

Hi DC

I got 355.4 bhp last year (with graph to prove - if you believe the graph..), just run in and still on the running in map. Only done a few hundred miles since, some more mods to do, and a rolling road remap to do to bring it all together (MS2 fuel & ignition), hoping to hit or just top 370..... Will post graph when done, hopefully before summer arrives....

Le Mans TR7V8, nearly 30 years ago. 3.6 Litre Rover twin turbo gave over 500bhp. (X up for 5.5 Litre, ridiculous calculation!) Did 201mp.h down Mulsanne. Drive shaft broke in practice.
Sorry but with twin turbo's its hardly a normally aspirated car!!Hate to even think it. A 2 litre BM diesel in my Griff would still do 150mph with 60+ mpg. However, prefer my Rover for its sonorous rumbling and grunt.
Question, how is the 50/50 front/back car ballance with your LS3. Cheers.

Biggest and fastest N/A ever was racer carl hansen.
Faster even than the SP12.
His famous kiwi racer hit something stupid like 700!!
Even HE has now finally left the RV8.

Yes understood Chris. Just TR7s showing off with I think a Janspeed conversion, twin 2in SUs also the same for detuned Rover SDIs. Your fine LS3 is not standard but could be the way to go in future. Nice one. SMILES galore!!

Hi, if i'm honest the only thing i miss about the RV8 so far is the sound, my car had a straight through system and every time i drove the car it filled me with joy, even if did sound a little agricultural with both sets of cats out! I have only done about 120miles with the Ls3 and yes the strangest thing is not hearing the RV8 growl, the car is very quiet at idle but comes to life once you stamp on the loud peddle, i've been told it will get louder once it beds in but stil think it's a bit quiet for me, there is no pops and bangs on the over run but i'm sure that can be mapped in, think it's something to do with the standard fly by wire throttle set up and ECU being very fuel efficient and self adjusting, once again i'm not sure its something i'll stick with as the throttle action takes some getting used to.Hate to even think it. With regard to the 50/50 balance to soon to answer as i have literally just driven back from Topcats, plus the suspension is not right something to do with my spring rating me thinks, car feels like a go cart at present.
One thing i have to say is the power is MONUMENTAL in fact it scared the s
t out of me at first, it just pulls and pulls and thats with me only going to 4500 and three quarters throttle, bike like acceleration! I plan to be at chatsworth, growl, etc so please introduce yourself and come for a ride!
Just spoke to Paul at wortex who mapped the car and he tells me he can bespoke it to my personal preference, ie turn all the modern feul efficient gubbins off and give me some noise on the overun :] I want to try and get the throttle more responsive to my input as it feels like there's a slight delay, most of it is just getting used to the modern ECU engine characteristics throttle blades etc, just when i thought i'd finished spending money on the damn thing!!
Nice posts Chris. Hope to see you at Chats-- and Growl. Easy to find in your bright eye catching yellow with bonnet up. Best colour for night drives !!. 'Interceptor' cops, will be envious, and yes respectful.
Track days will tell if ballance and suspension is ok compared with other Griff/Chimp RV8s. Easy out of corners, no contest. Slight throttle delay here may even help!! Give us all a shout if you do Bedford track day sometime. Cheers.

...and not forgetting one of the quickest, if not the quickest naturally aspirated (with a little laughing gas) RV8 powered doorslammers, Steve Greens Cortina: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C1SYJmGd89Y&fea...
