I had the mk1 MPS 3. Good car, very good at giving WTF was that when overtaking. But not sure on the Mk2 styling. Only problem I had was rusting alloys but they were replaced twice under warranty. Hardly any torque steer with the LSD.

They are not really comparable cars other than price.

The MPS is verging on the hyper hatches in terms of pace and power whereas the FR isnt even up to pace with normal hot hatches. Its Seats warm hatch.

MPS is nearly a second and a half faster to 62 and has over 60 bhp more.............The MPS is in the same ballgame as the Cupra R.

I did the Mk2 MPS Vs Leon Cupra R when choosing my car but the Mazda won for me, you get so much more kit as standard so was better value for money, they're pretty much the same performance wise and looks are subjective. Not really a fair comparison to the FR.

If you say so. The FR is 2 hatch classes down. And the FR is over 7 seconds to 62 and the MPS closer to 6 flat.

we bought a Leon FR+ TSI in september. I looked into the mazda MPS at the time as it looked like a lot of car for the money.

It is a lot for the money, loads of kit onboard (metallic paint is the only optional extra I think as everything else is standard) and it is very fast. BUT reviews talk of masses of torque steer, which I personally hate, and the big big but for us was the fuel economy. The Leon is averaging 35mpg so far for us, the MPS would be low 20s.

So depending if you won't be doing that much miles, and the roads around you are in resonable conditions so suit the MPS go for that. But if you do more miles the Leon has to be worth a look.

Have a look at the prices drivethedeal.com has for brand new cars when looking at 2nd hand... some of the discounts on the Leon and MPS make 1 year old 2nd hand cars look overpriced.

I average 32mpg and i do have some torque steer on poor or wet roads but its not much, mine is tuned so chucks out 310bhp/350lb/ft too. Don't doubt the FR is better on fuel though, the extra 110bhp isn't free but both cars sat at 70, there wouldn't be anything in it.

My mate has the TFSI FR, great cars but for me there not as nice to drive, the spec isn't as good ans there no where near MPS performance, mines only the mk1 but i would still take the mk2 over it personally
