Con Artists' Emails

Just thought I'd highlight some of the emails that scammers try to send to people advertising their cars. Not many get through so on the whole they're wasting their time but it's amusing to see them sit there and type out 60 emails knowing that none of them will arrive

Strewth, do you have to vet all the replies to the ads? And keep an eye on the forums? And run the site in general? When do you sleep??!!

Presumably there's some clever way of knowing that they are fake (OK the last one's kind of obvious!) other than the crap English?

I've implemented various automatic measures which detect the con artists. The system traps about 95% of them currently.

Had a mail from someone today who fell for one of these scams.

The original mail which got through to a few people before we blocked it stated:

scam artist said:

Hello, As regards to your advert on web for sale of '**********' ,i will like to buy,is your price negotiable?If so what is your last price.I await your prompt response. Regards Mike

He then sent a cheque for £3500 for some wheels that cost £200 and asked for the difference to be forwarded to him.

The cheque bounced.

Please be sensible when selling items . Being offered a cheque for £3500 for an item that you're selling at £200 should raise some suspicions!

Ok, last night a scammer tried to send 120 emails and all of them were trapped and didn't get sent to their intended recipients

I would have gladly shipped it to them.
Infact I would have sent it airfrieght. Dont worry if the plane isn't stopping in Nigeria, just push it out the back when overhead!
