Looking for any possible advice on buying and keeping a Porsche 928 S4 (1987-1990). Many thanks.

Do a search on 928 - there are a number of threads on this topic which should help.

I'd start with the buyers guide on the 928UK site. Usual cam belt, water pump and service history check. Another thing on the auto is the thrust bearing play. The cars love to be used. Mine develops wee problems, like the electric windows slow down, if it's not used regularly.

Your not far wrong! If its a 928 you are after that wont cost "as much" to maintain as a S4, try looking at 86 S2's as they came with the S4 brakes and other goodies but without as much of a nightmare of the usual S4 wiring issues.

Otherwise, Expect to spend around 800~1500 a year on maintenance even a well looked after 928 can throw faults your way without warning each year. Hope this helps smile

Always liked the 928 and like the 911 also but prefer the 928 for the looks, engine at the front and the build quality. Looking at a few S4,s at present which seem very reasonable and a couple that are almost twice the price for no apparent reason. Will take my time over this though, Oh and haven,t mentioned anything to My beloved as yet.

Jess

Forgot to mention that I already have a Bimota SB6R (temporamental Italian motorcycle), so can appreciate time, effort and cost of pieces of needy machinery.
Is there any Porsche specialists in and around the Edinburgh area ?

Jess

Some guys use Peter @ Motortune in Shotts. I'm in Lanark and need to decide who to use for maintenance in the future. I work in Glasgow and was using George Morrison. The other option is Brian Miller, but I don't think he's keen on 928's these days. I know someone who uses OPC in Edinburgh, they pick up the car and valet it too. OPC's have started price matching indy's too, so you pay around £50 to £70 per hour.
