Hi All,

I have a Ford Focus Mk2 TDCI 1.8

Got the car last year this time, and I have done 20k miles in the car, its a 56reg and now done around 90k miles.

I had the car remapped about 8 months ago, best thing I have done for the car, transformed it, better MPG, and much much quicker.

In the last 2 months i have had a serious smoking problem when i start the car in the morning. I know the temperature has become a lot colder. when i start the motor, the car sounds like a tractor and white smoke bellows out the exhaust. Its worse when the temperature is below 0.

I don't know what is causing the smoke as the car is unabused, never redlined, never raced on a track. I don't drive over the speed limit as I am a young driver with a nice SP30 on my license.

What can I do to fix the smoking issue? What has caused the smoking issue? have also noticed a drop by about 5MPG recently also.

What I have tried to do so far:
Vpower fuel last 2 months (helped a little smoke not as thick)
Air filter (nothing)
Oil (Did that tonight so wait and see)

it is drinking slightly more fuel, full tank normally last me around 4 weeks however ive been pushing 3 recently without the miles adding up. The oil has stayed prity much around the same mark over the last few weeks as with the coolant.

I got a video to show people. however the sound is bad as my glove was over the mic and the smoking is nowhere near as bad as it really is. doesn't do it justice in the slightest.

im going to be checking the glow plugs this weekend and if they are bad i will replace and see if this makes a difference.

Revert to original map and check?

Had a piggy back box on my Passat, went like sh@t off a shovel. On start up it disappeared in a cloud of smog for the first few minute. Was removed pretty quickly!

If the plugs dont make a difference I feel the best way to preserve the engine so I can get a decent trade in price is to remove the map.

Ahh I hope i dont get charged for the removal!

That's not right! I don't think it'll be your remap that's the problem. The weather has been unusually cold and my 2.0 TDCi is a bit rattly when cold this last week or so.

EGR valves always seem to be problematic on these cars so that could be a problem. It might be better to wait until the weather warms up a bit and see if the problem remains.
