Riding from London to Israel

I want to do a trip with a few friends through Europe with Israel being the final destination. We were planning on going in convoy with one car and a couple of motorbikes. I thought the Top Gear special last year where they drove from Iraq to Israel was interesting, but I remember them having to be careful about not letting the Israelies find out that that they'd been through Syria. Don't know how true all this was practice!

However, I was wondering if any of you had any suggestions for alternative routes to get there (i.e. not via Turkey-Syria-Jordan). Apparently the Greece->Cyprus->Israel ferry route stopped operating in 2001. However, perhaps we could get a ferry to Egypt from the continent and then continue from there......
