Out of date oil (Oct 2009) - still ok to use?
Discussion
Wondering what the general consensus is.
Have a 1L bottle of Mobil semi-synth 10w-40 in the boot for emergency top ups. Never actually been used however (still has sealed cap). Messing around in the boot today, by chance had a quick glance at the oil and noticed that the 'expiry' date is Oct 2009 (it's been in the boot a while!).
Is the oil still usable or not worth the risk? Not sure how oil degrades over time (and its associated lubricating properties).

Let me think. it was in the ground for a million years....
I'd use it.
If unsure, dispense a small amount into a small bottle and give it a good shake. Does it froth? Now open it and check whether it smells of almonds. if so, don't use it. **
