Recommend me an Indian in Brick Lane

As the title says...any experience here, looking for a venue to 8 people, not silly pricy but good value food.

I think common agreement on here is that Brick Lane is not recommended gernally. There are a couple of really good places on Commercial Road that usually are recommended above Brick Lane. A search on here shoudl throw something up.

Thats more Pakistani style, which is fine if thats what your after. But its different from what most people think of as "an indian". They will not have dishes that your regular curry eater would recognise and they don't do a hot curry.

All im saying is if you are expecting the sort of curry that most of us are used to eating you will be disapointed. If you are looking for a different sort of curry then give it a try. Oh and Tayyabs do not sell alcohol so take your own if you want an alcoholic drink.

I had a most pleasant Biriyani at Standard Balti on Brick Lane. I only went there because the queue for Tayab's was massive though.

As it turns out I will now be in Bayswater as the bowling alley in Brick Lane could not accommodate us.

You can phone or book online but it must be 24hrs ahead.

I wouldn't go to Brick Lane for a curry. For a start the fact they have staff outside touting for business is a bad sign!

Tayyabs very good but gets rammed
Lahore Kebab House nearby (just of Commercial Rd) also excellent (despite the name) and less chaotic

Only had poor curries in London. Not a patch on what u get up north.

Don't think there is much difference between Pakistani and Indian dishes, in my experience they generally offer the same.

Lahore Kebab House is my favourite though. Have the lamb chops.. mmm
