I am currently in the market for a new Porsche and i am strongly drawn towards a 996 GT2 as i think they are a beautiful car and should hold there money quite well, maybe even go up.
Do others in the know believe that these will begin to appreciate and have an opinion on what a mint low mileage example would be worth in say 10 years time?

What do you think internet forums are for apart from discussing the things we enjoy or have an interest in.

as my dad would say, "if you can't say something nice , say nothing at all"

Hard to say the future but it's a matter of record they're worth more today than a year ago and the same thing a year before that.

I'm holding on to mine partly for this reason. Of course mostly because they're amazingly good and I'd much have the car than the cash.

You should follow some of his advice, I think.

When the person is able to answer the OP's question to 100% accuracy (predicting the future), can you please tell me when the next !90mill euro lottery will be and the winning numbers - thanks

OP - Buy it, drive it, lose money or buy it, leave it in a collection/dont drive it, possibly gain money but also a waste of money (pending on your finances)

That's fair comment i know no one is psychic and knows the answer, but hey i am bored at work, and keep telling myself that i should buy one as an investment as well as a nice car.

At some point they will appreciate, though as with the Mk 1 & Mk2 996 GT3s, I suspect it will be another five years (or more) before they start to do so.

As for asking what a mint low miles example will be worth in ten years time ? I think you possibly deserved the response you got smile
But I digress, no one could possibly know what any car will be worth in ten years time, least of all a GT2.

All I'd say is this, if you intend buying a GT2 on the basis of what it will or won't be worth in ten years time, I really wouldn't bother.

As others have said previously (and has been repeated in this thread) buy one, drive it and enjoy it, in that way you'll be appreciate the true ethos of the car. driving

If you want a garage queen, go out and find the nicest, lowest mileage and original example you can find and leave it in a dehumidified garage for the next ten years.I suspect you won't find it a particularly enjoyable ownership experience though ! smile

I bought one before Christmas. The view I came to was that its unlikely they will depreciate much if anything, and are likely to creep up.

Its hard to see them going very high, very quickly I think, due in part to the climate. What will happen in the loner term is anyone's guess

Going to go way off topic here but its dead anyway ;-)

But how comes the Far Eastern market hasnt taken to importing the '96 GT's yet? There seems to be alot of other high profile marquee'd second hand export market going on or is it just because their not Italian or classed as classics?

Steady short term, gentle appreciation medium term.

Long term, though, due to the collapse in world financial systems, and subsequent collapse of governmental followed by law & order apparatus, rare supercars will find themselves somewhat devalued, with an armoured Hilux, modified to run on anything vaguely flammable and bearing twin mounted machine guns becoming far more the discerning enthusiast's choice for running down looters whilst on the weekly food scavenging run.

This.

Don't buy one as an investment. The chances are they won't drop but who knows what they'll be worth in the future. Buy it because it's an awesome car that will terrify you and make you laugh every time you drive it.

I miss mine and have done since selling it. I was following one along the M4 on Saturday and have to say I've started looking at the classifieds again.

Harry Metcalfe (of Evo/The Sunday Times) thinks they will.

In fact, funnily enough, it was about a year ago he said it.

You are 10 years too early..but they will..they will only want them when they are seriously hard to get hold of...they are buying rare assets per-se whether it be cars or paintings..996gt2 and 996 gt3rs will be like rocking horse ste in 5-10 years time if good/perfect condition..ive seen this pattern before so many times..964 rs's /964 turbo's...even old frigging lotus's and Avo Fords will do the same..In fact the latter already have
