Heatshield Questions
Discussion
I need a new heatshield for the underside of my bonnet but these don't appear to be available ready made meaning I'll need to buy the fabric and do the necessary to make it fit. Questions are:
1. Where can I get the original/closest match fabric from?
2. What is the black finish under the bonnet? (I figure if it's off and the shield stripped a touch-up wouldn't go amiss)
3. What thread does one need to hem new heatshield fabric - presumably heatproof thread
!? (I appreciate this is a motoring forum not a sewing one! My GF will do the sewing; honest (she just doesn't know it yet...)!)
Cheers

Hi Andy,
I bought mine from John Zubak (jonnyZ on PistonHeads)
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2712904.htm
He has them made to order and I have to say the quality is really good, I also bought a new roof cover from him whilst I hand my Credit Card out...
I am just about to fit mine as I have the manifolds off at the moment, John is a really helpful guy and has a list of other stuff avalible for the engine bay...
If you PM me I will email you his full contact details and 'TVR Parts Leaflet'

The closest match to the original, with the square patterns in the material, is on e-bay.
Andy, take care in buying ready made, as the early griff needs a different pattern & the inner wings were often modified to allow greater clearance for the manifolds. - new heat sheild material was patched over the top of the mod.
Steve - how did you line up the new pop-rivets with the old holes in the wing through the material?
Paul

Hi Paul,
I am not sure how to do this yet, the kit comes complete with high temperature glue, stainless steel rivets and washers so I was thinking about gluing into place and then either using a pin to find the original holes based on the old material or re-drilling as I am lucky enough to have a very shallow right-angled drill.
I will update on my 'progress...'
Regards
Steve
