Seen a high mileage V8V for sale 80K miles on a 2006 plate. Just how ruinous could this be? Plus is there anything I should look for that could be ruinous as well.

generally they are proving very reliable so far, mine is a 2006 with 60K on the clock and ive not heard of any with any major faults

check the history on what has been replaced though, generally it should have had a clutch, discs, tyres, pads etc a couple of times maybe

also Id want a good discount for 80K miles when there are so many around for a few grand more with only 40K miles on (or less)

Check it's not an ex hire/super car day
As Bogie says if it has been looked after it should be OK

If its been looked after and has a decent history it should be ok.If you plan on keeping it a few years and go over 100,000 miles it will be worth peanuts when you sell though.

looking at used prices on here, you see ex hire cars with 80-90K on the clock for high £20K's and half the mileage for only £5K more

id take the latter as the former are going to be really hard to sell again ...of course if you can get a high miler for £25K or less then likely its worth it

cars like these may take the miles well, but come resale, everyone wants the low mileage one, and theres plenty of garage queens about smile

I bought used with what I considered "high" mileage at 20,000. It did not bother me a bit as I never plan on selling her.

IMO, if you are keeping it for good then it does not matter. If not, it may due to resale.

What Ebruce said. If you don't care about resale then it doesn't really matter. Garage Queens have their own issues from not being used enough.

How would you know for sure if it was a rental / track car? Once I saw one for sale with high miles and passed on it. A couple of weeks later a friend of mine was showing me his home video of his track day aston martin driving experience a year or so previously... yup, same car.

The jag V8 is good for squillions of miles. My Dad put over 150k on a supercharged version of the 4.2 without a single mechanical issue. It was still pulling like a train, with those miles, no less power than it had at 30k.

I'm sure most modern engines will do 80k without any problems, high miles put me off buying because in general,
the car will be peppered in stone chips inc the lights and windscreen, the seats, if leather will show signs of wear, the suspension will have taken a hammering (my Vantage needed a new steering rack at less than 25k miles)and will also be much harder to move on at a later date.
On the other hand I wouldn't by a car with tiny mileage either, they need to be used on a regular basis but a car like a Vantage shouldn't be hammered imho.

This is the key. Spend a few more k and get a car you don't even have to think twice about buying. If you haven't got it right now, give it a few months and they'll have dropped so you don't need to have it anyway smile
