I have decided to take my dash off in the near future and make a template in order to get some covers made up for them.

Now I am considering 3 different options, just canvassing what would be the most popular:

1). Wood Veneer
2). SS plate
3). Carbon Fibre

I reckon I can get all of these made up, although SS will be quite expensive for me.

What would people prefer? I need to make sure there is enough interest for me to go ahead with it. I'm also going to have a go at getting some custom switch panels made up, with alloy switches. Is thereanything I need to know about the switches (electrical stuff)?

Cheers

If you didn't already know..

The switch panel assembly is made up of 2 plates...

The lower panel mounts the switches and the upper is simply a cover plate, with oversize holes cut in to shroud the switches...

IMHO and having looked at it, the assemble could be made simpler and better by using 1 plate which houses and mounts the switches. This would also allow better directional flow for the vents as the plate will be directly above the vent itself.

The upper panel is held off the lower by spacer studs which are glued to the rear of the top plate.

There is a section on www.tvrsseries.com about removal of the panel.

Cheers Dave. Yep I was planning on making a single layer one with SS screw/bolt heads showing through on the tor with some nicer switches. This is all time dependent though. The dash is my main aim.

SS or Carbon Fibre please - depending on the price difference

Did you decide if you're going to do complete dash assemblies (ie: with fixing bolts etc so you remove the old dash then fit the new one) or a slide in panel to go in-front of the old. Certainly on my S it looks like the dash is simply slotted in place.

I'll probably be going for a thin layer that will stick on over the existing one.

I would be interested in the Carbon Fibre dash, I looked to do this myself some time ago.

Ady the S/S part of your dash looks great, look forward to seeing the old girl at the S meet in Aug! You also have mail regarding the wheel centres!

If thst the easiest solution! Have you looked into the costs yet, I know where you can get Carbon Fibre sheets that will do 2 dash sets for around £50 if you need a supplier. IIRC Ballistic Banana also knows a source!

I may also be able to help, I have a friend that designs various things that are then punched out of sheet metal, (this could be any type of sheet metal i.e. stainless steel etc).

If I had a template or something in AutoCAD that I could pass on to him, I'm sure he would be able to do something and all it would cost me is a few beers + the sheet of metal. I have seen the machine he uses and I would think that could easily produce 10+ dash panels out of one big sheet of metal ...

The only problem maybe thickness of dash panels, what would you think they would need to be ?

Hi Trev

Haven't seen you about for a while..

As far as manufacture for Steel panels goes..I have a really good contact for Laser cutting sheet.

I will try and get some parts made prior to the S meet and take some along. The templates are the difficult thing to get hold of.

O/T How is the car after the Upgrade chip..?

Dave,

I'm around every now & then !!, the S is running perfectly since the upgrade, just wish I had a bit more time to get out and enjoy it more.

If you can get them laser cut then they will have a better finish than the ones I could get made, be interesting to see what you come up with ...

Right, I can get a couple of CF ones made up as well as a couple of veneered ones. The SS will be more difficult. I would have to buy a sheet of SS which is around £150 then pay for each one to be cut out.

Mainly I'm interested in making my money back, but I'll let people know when the first one is done. It willprobably be wood or CF.

Not sure if wood is a good idea, due to heat soak... could lead to cracking.

Hmmm... It may do, I'll have a word with my ncle who is a carpenter.

Nevertheless I'll be getting 2 CF ones made.

Something to think about. If enough of you guys (and girls) want Stainless Steel dashes laser cut we could look at it. We already offer all the Griffith/Chimaera/Cerbera range so have plenty of experience.

If Carbon Fibre is your preference then in my view there is only one place to go www.London-carriage-Craft.com These are not the cheapest but the quality is something else and worth every penny.
