I moved to Manchester about a year ago for a job and notified my Insurance company I was moving address.
They said my premium may go up. I said this was fine (I'd prepared myself for it to increase up to double). The guy then said "eeeerm ok, are you sitting down?" and preceded to tell me my premium had gone from £760 to a massive £4300!!

That's a difference of £3,540, more than most insurance policies anyway!

Turns out M14 is one of the most expensive places to insure your car in the country and the biggest factor in policy price is the location you live in. Any quotes I got were coming in well above the £3000 mark too.

Anyone elses insurance properly ridiculous depending on your location?

Where abouts in manchester is that exactly if you dont mind me asking?A mate of mine lives in burnage and is always complaining about how high his car insurance is so i did a comparrison with my details and his postcode and it increased by about 30%.I dont live in manchester btw.

Seems like they are taking the piss abit with that,I would start trying different insurers if I was you.

Are you a student? I'm struggling to understand the circumstances in which you move from what seems to be a 'reasonable' postcode to M14. You may as well have moved to SR^ and have done with it hehe

Mine's a nice blue-green colour, unlike my postcode when I lived in London which appears as distinctly orange.

Lowest insurance risk rating possible.

Having lived in the highest, it's a relief not to worry all the time.

It was Rusholme/Fallowfield, although I moved not long ago and live in Didsbury now (next to burnage), changed insurer etc and I've got it down to a more reasonable price than 4000, still expensive though.

Job was In Fallowfield so thought it best to move close (didn't know Manchester).

I was a student in NE, can't say I ever wanted to go across the river to SR though spin

I lived in M21 (Chorlton) for 7 years and didn't find the insurance too bad. Paid around £600 to insure a Focus ST170 parked on the street.

£4300 is quite simply ridiculous!

On the plus side there's plenty of busses go through M14.

Directly under the R in high risk which is fun. I'm sure most Afghan postcodes are lower risk.

Crumbs - Fallowfield eh? I used to live, briefly, in Withington. Bad for car insurance, v v bad.

Still, Didsbury is nice. Is Fridays club still going?
