Dont know if this is in the right section but would like it to stay here please.
Right i purchased a car on saturday and all was rosy. Then driving to work on monday the engine management light makes an apperance and remains on for the remainder of the jurney.
I ring the vauxhall dealer and tell them my story. The car was purchased from a main dealer about an hour and a half away and booked in on thursday for them to fix it. Now i have a vauxhall dealer a mile down the road to me,would it be unreasonable for me to take the car to this dealer and forward the diagnostics bill to the far away dealer. Or ask gor compensation and for them to pay for fuel cost. I will also be taking a days holiday to take the car.
Cost of finding the fault £40 at local dealer, waranty for part
Cost of petrol to the far away dealer £30-40
So im not saving anything so am i being unreasonable for a) wanting compensation for waste of my time and fuel cost, and b) not taking a days holiday and fuel cost, and for them to absorb the cost?
Sorry for poor gramyr and speiling im a mountain dwelling welshman

If it turns out to be a serious problem and you take it somewhere else to be fixed first, you will have a very hard battle to reject the car.
^^^^ ThisAlso, there are 2 separate things here,
1) The dealer's obligations under Sale of Goods Act (i.e.legally implied warranty of quality and fitmness for purpose)
2) The terms of the separate warranty provided by a third party.
You cannot reasonably get (1) by going anywhere other than back to the dealer where you bought the car and giving him a chance to fix it.
How you deal with (2) depends on the detailed wording of the written warranty. However, I would not expect it to make you go back to the original dealer.
Personally I doubt there is any realistic alternative to going back to the original dealer.
