Hi all, i've been offered 17" boxter alloys taken from a 1997 boxter. i just want to make sure they will fit my 944 S2 Cabby ok. i know a lot of people keep 16" on the cabby but i had 17" on my old 1 without spacers (but don't know what sizes they were) and they just looked so much better without the ride suffering a lot.

the sizes are
Fronts 7 55 205/50ZR17
Rear 8.5 80 255/40 ZR17

i'm ot sure but i think they are ET55 + ET80 but i'm trying to get this verified.

i've heard the 8.5 rear should go straight on without the need for spacers, is this true, especially if the rear turns out to be ET80

All help appriciated

Don't know anything about the wheels, but did you see the Towbar details I posted?

www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=108143&f=48&h=0

On this, I do know the one on my dad's was not removable.

Assuming the offset is ET80 and they are genuine Porsche wheels, you will need 25mm spacers in order to return your track to standard.
The fronts at ET55 will narrow your front track by 6mm overall, probably not noticeable.

Allan

On offsets the higher the number over the standard factory fitting in mm = the amount of mm reduction in track if spacers are not used.

I have/had 2 x 944's both with Boxster 17" wheels fitted but the very very important offset was correct to start with.
F = 7.5" x 17" ET55
R = 9.0" x 17" ET55
Bananaman was looking at wheels with an ET of 80 [R]

Err No I wasn't

Fitted mine with no spacers so assume that there

F = 7.5" x 17" ET55
R = 9.0" x 17" ET55

do you think a 17" rear offset of 9" ET47 would fit on ok or would spacers be required again as these seem smaller in offset than current wheels?

Have a look here.
www.rsracing.com/tech-wheel.html

If you need a spacer of 25mm for wheels with ET80 & the offset you need is ET55 then wheel with an offset of ET47 would actually stick out an extra 8mm & therefor a spacer would make matters worse.
You might get away with your wheels sticking out an Xtra 8mm but you'd need to check this.
Carn't you try B4 you buy?

:0 Sorry Bananaman I meant to type Davie G but got it all wrong.

Davie G contact Joel at RSJ Sports Cars in Slough he is bound to have a set of Boxster 17" wheels of 7" & 9" ET55 that will work on a 944.

He is not greedy so he prices them up to sell

I've just been offered a different set of boxter alloys, these have a front 7" ET55 and Rear 8.5" ET50. I take it these should fit straight onto my 944 cabriolet as the offsets are just about the same aren't they?

Cheers, Dave
