Ceiling speakers - any recommendations?
Discussion
Hi All,
Whilst the ceilings are down (new plumbing gone in) I'm wanting to pop up some ceiling speakers in the kitchen.
Currently the home cinema setup is bi-amp'd so no worries about extra speakers being able to be 'fed'.
Can anyone point me in the direction of decent speakers for the job?
Any info greatly appreciated
Cheers,
C.

Something from the Monitor Audio range ... wide choice of speakers in terms of levels of performance. Just make sure you check your depths first before you commit to a speaker.http://www.monitoraudio.co.uk/products/ci-series/Whilst the ceilings are down (new plumbing gone in) I'm wanting to pop up some ceiling speakers in the kitchen.

Speak to Vex on here. Will prob recommend Monitor Audio. Just fitted 18 of them to the house and very impressed with them.
+1 for monitor audio in ceilings. I have just completed the build in my lounge using their in ceilings as centre and rears matched to RS6 Silver front floor standers and a Miller and Kreisel 12 inch sub. Sounds awesome. Ill post pics in a build thread at some point if you need images of the monitors in situ. R.
Ha ha Vex. The amp should arrive today and they will be up and running by tonight. You may hear them.
The living room will be running 2 x 15 inch subs which are sealed. These will be built in and concealed. I have also built an 18 inch sealed sub. It is destined for a dedicated room they is yet to be built but I could not resist building it. It has a footprint just a bit bigger than a washing machine and is almost as high. That is also going into the living room but for short term only. I have another 18 inch driver but thought 2 18 inch and 2 15 inch subs may be overkill.
They will be run off a Behringer amp which is rated at 2 x 2000 watts into 2 ohms. The drivers are rated at 1.4 ohms. The 15's are going to be run in series and the 18 on its own channel. The amp can be bridged if required which can deliver 4000 watts into 4 ohms which should be sufficient for sirs needs.

Are there any seismic research centres near your house ?. That is a frankly colossal amount of sub bass. At the risk of derailing this thread - we must be talking about a very large listening room/theatre and a set of equally large effects/steering speakers ? unless you just really, really, really like Sub bass.
I thought my MK was approaching overkill on my system - two 15's and an 18...... thats incredible.

Using in ceiling Triad speakers. Went down the DIY sub route as needed particular shape. The plan is for the 15 inch subs to stay and they will not be seen.
I am building a dedicated cinema room at the top of the garden which is where the 18's will end up. Have not decided if sealed or ported for these. The problem with the ported design is they are 70cm x 80cm x 120cm and will weigh about 130-140kg. They will go to 115-120db at 10Hz.
Back to the living room. The room is 5.4m square so not massive. Yes I do like bass but I like it tight and controlled so should achieve this with the large drive units in sealed enclosures. As for the 18 in the living room. s
ts and giggles but it won't stay for more than a couple of weeks as it is an ugly son of a b

Where's the invite so we can all come round and
to the
Sofas shaking and wife and son complaining of headache. This is with the line level Inputs on -6db compared to rest of speakers and amp dial only 1/3 of the way round. Still on -6db from reference level on preamp output.
Long and short of it, is its chuffing loud and there's plenty more to go.
