I remember taking the train up to London for this F1 promotional event. It was mental. There were people hanging off lamp-posts, traffic lights and bus shelters, most of whom had just finished work and didn't know one end of an F1 car from the other. Unless you were right up close, you couldn't see a thing. But the noise was incredible. I don't think they ever did it again.

Here's some footage with a nice moment with the Jaguar at about 2.30 mins. in.

I was there. I remember it being absolutely rammed and whilst you could hear plenty, you could see fk all. We decamped to the pub fairly pronto.

I was right at the front, right on the first turn (sharp left hander). It was awesome!

Hora. Are you in any of these??

(note my excellent skills with a camera. Available for all future F1 events, Le mans, pub outings etc etc)

C Da Matta:

Trulli

DC

Montoya blending into the crowd

JB

DC again. The "event security" were massively heavy handed- a real ego trip for them

After the run, returning to their pit

JK. from jamiroquai No, really !!

These were taken outside the IOD building. I remember the biggest cheer was for Mansell, driving a Jordan

I was there. I remember it being very loud, and taking a terrible video on my camera.

I managed to blag a photographers pass so I was stationed in a traffic island in the middle of regent street.

One of the most memorable moments for me was walking up through Piccadilly and regent street with thousands of people lining the street in either side and not a car in sight. It felt like the road had been shut just for me!! For a first assignment it was quite an event.

I also got to talk to DC, well he asked me where the press conference was and I showed him. That counts right?!

Yeap! I was only thinking about this the other day too! I was standing on top of a postbox with my mate when I was a wee 14 year old biggrin

I wasn't there but I do remember watching it. Can't remember if it was online or TV but I'm sure it was Sky New that filmed it.

I remember Nigel stalled his car and had to wait for the back up crew to get going again!

I remember the commentator saying something about the organiser had told the driver not to do doughnuts, which they completely ignored!

But my abiding memory is the amount of people there, I still can't understand why the government didn't take that onboard.

The goverment ddn't take what on board??

As much as I'd like to see it, shutting down swathes of central London and the associated shops etc for a week a year just isn't going to happen.

ETA: I was there that day and the noise was awesome. The crowds were something else though, a couple of hundred thousand tried to attend as I recall and it was chaos.

I was there, at the ripe old age of 16. I was chatting to a mate who had some off the books work with show & event who managed to get the 'security' job for the event.

Somehow, the 4 of us who went up got selected to go in the pits for the day. So there I am, standing next to the Jordan truck on the bottom left of the pit. I had no idea what the event was, just that it was some display in London. A fantastic piece of luck

I shook Nigel Mansell and Eddie Jordan's hands, watched Mansell do a quality burnout from less than 10 feet away and got bked repeatedly for sitting on the floor because my feet hurt.

As you may be able to tell, I really am very fond of that memory, it was one of the best days ever and probably what kick started my love of all things petrol powered

ETA: and, WilliamP, I did absolutely nothing all day except tell pretty Italian women not to smoke around the fuel (in a very squeaky voice)

I was one of many with 5 rows of people in front of me even though I got there two hours before the procession. So did not see much (probably about 10 seconds worth of glimpses in total) but yes the F1 flat out acceleration sounded like a bomb going off.

The highlight for me was when one girl about five storeys up on a balcony decided to entertain the crowd by flaunting her perfect tits.nuts She was gorgeous (at least from that distance).
