my puppy has started producing 'mr whippys'

it started with him crying at 0330am (something he never does) i let him out and he went to the toliet.

same today his stools are not watery just quite loose and pile up.

what is the best course of action shall i just not feed him tonight or ive seen feed him rice?

but again that is something hes never had so i dont want to upset he stomach further.

he has had no change in diet and been wormed.

your thoughts please.........

Lots of reasons for pups to get diarrhoea, stress, eaten something (like a treat etc) worms, campylobacter, giardia (worst case scenario parvo but if vacc this is unlikely)

Don't starve (pups too young) but bland food and small amount tonight as you said rice.

If not much better by tom get to a vets tom or if becoming lethargic (as this started in the early hrs of today I'd have advised vet ck should've been today). Make sure he is drinking plenty.

You are thinking if lethargic then Parvo is a possibility?
OP have you checked the temp of the poochie?
How is he now? Have you given a little chicken/rice? Has it stayed down?

No not at all, I only mentioned parvo as a cover all scenarios. Lethargy can be just a result of dehydration due to the diarrhoea/ temp/ tummy ache, general stomach bug etc. But lethargy in pups is more serious than an adult as they go downhill more quickly when they are so young so lethargy is a critical sign to look out for.

What do you mean by loose stool. There is a big difference between soft but formed stools and liquid diarrhoea but they are all loose. Also the colour could be significant.

Hope it's back to normal soon.

I have a GSD X and for the first 18 months/2 years of her life she was 'loose' and I tried all sorts with her. I ended up changing her food and food patterns completely and tried different foods.

Started her on 'Wainwrights salmon' and she has been right as rain since.
She was never unhealthy or lacking in energy she just went more than was normal and it was very soft and sometimes liquid.

Sorry if this isnt a help but thought it might be an option?

Putting the pooch on a raw food diet would help with the stools IMHO, they waste far less of it.

took him to the vets last night and she gave him a steroid shot to calm his intestines and told me to feed him a bland diet, scrambled eggs, rice and chicken until his stools have firmed up.

she diagnosed it as inflamation of the intestine, begins with c, cant remember the name of it for the life in me.

his stools were rock solid on the diet we had him on, salmon and potato all natural.

so i think it must have been something he's eaten in the garden?

cheers for all the help smile

our GSD (18mnths now) used to get the runs quite regular, we used to scramble some eggs and she'd be fine.
good for future ref

I wouldnt personally. There are quite a few people that discredit raw diet plus just think what they eat and then lick you.

You want to be licked by raw chicken? I can see it not just being the GSD with the squits.

Always discouraged the dog from licking me; There's far worse things he's probably been licking earlier than chicken!

OP, I doubt this'll be the last time your pup gets the runs. They tend to try eating everything they find so it's enevitable; st in, st out. wink
