Just to comfirm cams originally fitted at 37302k and LS3 fitted at 42359k so cams have only done 5057k miles

what condition are your cams in, mine dont look to good either but not sure if they are too fsr gone

They ain't major bad, the lobes have worn through the hard steel and have a rough pitted effect, also there is swarf on the edges of them, I could have cleaned them up and maybe run them a bit longer but it is a bit pointless setting clearances, putting fresh oil in etc to run a cam that ain't good, il post pics when I have them out tomorrow

Will you be replacing the cam followers as a matter of course or see the condition of them first.

Do you know how much new cams are?

I'll check the followers when the cams are out, as far as I can see they look ok, cams are 250 odd each

i've just had to get a new set of cams and followers for my 4.2, £960ish delivered.

probably but knowing my luck that would need new cams a week later as well.

From what people have said cams don't seem to last much more than 50k , my car is showing 54k , so no matter what engine you buy , 1 day your going to need some cams replaced in it. I'm guessing the cam wear is due to the aggressive profile contacting the follower or that there ain't enough oil in the rocker housing to keep them lube'd?
