Evening!

Okay I have just purchased the Spyder!, got a great deal on a great car with good options ticked!...Apart (unfortunately ) from
the Performance exhaust!! ;-(

When I asked the Porsche dealership how much it would be to fit one they quoted £2200!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...Then VERY quickly told
me if i have one fitted elsewhere the 3 year warrenty is Void!!

Ive been looking at the Remus System and can have it fitted for £970 all in....slightly better price!!!

So the Questions are...

1 - Surely they cant apply that warrenty issue to any future car issue??.e.g front lights / steering / gearbox etc etc?

2 - If i do have a problem and simply put the original exhaust on will it be detectable via the computer at the OPC (its only the back box part of exhaust)?

3 - Remus say the dont make a pipe for the spyder...youtube shows them on them,so is it exactly the same fitment as a Boxster 3.4 s?

Im not looking for performance gains...just want a better sound!

Many thanks for any help!

P.s Ill post some pics at the weekend! ;-)

i would look at carnewal mod. the stock exhaust is used except that sound sound deadening is removed so it becomes louder. This may be what you need.

Thanks

Just looked up Carnewal and shows them as being based in Belgium. Is is a Mod that could be done in the UK?

If you do not fit a PSE say goodbye to the warranty

Probably not, but if you have an expensive engine failure you've given them something to hang their hat on.

You'll also have soured the relationship with your dealer, for whatever value you might choose to place on that.

Unfortunately, problems don't always have the decency to occur at a time when you can swap the exhaust before being recovered to a dealer.

You can see from reading around this forum that some exhaust mods do trigger engine faults, though that's mostly down to those that involve changes to the cat.

In your shoes, I simply wouldn't risk it. I'd either suck it up and pay the £2k or forget it and put up with the stock noise.

Although you won't recover the cost, fitting a legitimate PSE will make it more desirable come resale.

what did you buy in the end as you were looking at 10 plate cars.

now you state you have 3 years warranty, have you bought on of these 11 plate cars with uber low miles ?
what spec ?

I had a Remus on my Cayman sounded great and released good BHp.

I thought the PSE was a bit quite (it's on mine) will prob get the Ti Remus systems to get weight down a bit more.

Scelto - Thanks for the advice!..Im kinda thinking your right about being sensible and leaving it as it is!..UNFORTUNATELY the little Demon on my shoulder is a strong force! ;-0

Mrdemon- Yep your right i was looking for a "10" plate but when all the pre reg 2011's came available from the dealers i thought id have a look.
The car i got was the one in Tonbridge OPC (its still on Autotrader for £49.995 if you wanna take a look) sorry dont know how to do a link). I was looking around the car and when the salesman came up i put a ridiculous offer and got laughed at!...then got a call and the deal was done!...I also agreed for them to remove the Boxster badge and replace with a Spyder badge, and although new (12 miles on clock) it had a few little scratches here and there so its been fully detailed at brandshatch, by an independant Detailer. also years tax , and 3 years warrenty.

The car is Gloss Black with Black wheels , red calipers ,carbon seats ,Sports shifter, Cromo pack,Climate Airon, Full Alcantara package inc armrests ,gear stick, seats and stearing wheel,Audio , CDR30 etc etc...BUT NO SPORTS EXHAUST!!! lol

Picking it up Saturday morning!...cant wait!

If you're still thinking of the PSE retrofit option, there have been threads on here where people have got a 'group buy' discount from OPCs when they've ordered PSEs together. I've got a gen 2 987S which needs more noise; I'd be interested if there's a few people that want to try and save some money at an OPC.

But I guess Porsche need to move them for the new Boxster now.

PSE is fantastic, a real throaty noise that isn't intrusive or overbearing. It has a quality to it that imo makes it different than exhausts that tend to just add noise.

Whether it's worth the money is a different matter, it is a lot of money relative to what else is out there.

If you have a car with the factory warranty then Porsche can't refuse warranty outright on the car (irrespective of what you were told). What they could do is refuse warranty for something that is connected to, or deemed affected by, the exhaust. Unfortunately this could include the engine itself, the CATs and other expensive parts.

It would void an Approved Warranty though as the terms are more onerous (it's an insurance contract between you and Porsche) and one of the terms is that no non-Porsche modification can be fitted to the vehicle.

You could probably get an OPC to fit PSE for a reasonable price, especially since you bought the car from them. I'd be surprised if it's sub-£2k though.

.
I think this should say would, not wouldn't.

Gert will stick you a PSE on for bit less than an OPC. Being a Porsche part I'm not entirely sure how they couldn't honour the warranty with that on.

Personally I'd just stick the Carnewal GT and take the chance that pork engines aren't quite ticking time bombs that forums might have you believe. But you will void your warranty.

I was worried about warranty issues, but put the Remus on regardless, you'll only trigger engine lights if you start unplugging the sensors on the 1st set of CATs. If you stick the original exhaust back on, it'll only be noticed if they realise you've actually put decent nuts and bolts back on that didn't have to be drilled out in the first place.

The stock exhaust is made by Remus in Austria for Porsche anyhow, put the stock 'zorst and the Remus next to each other and the quality swings rapidly in the direction of the custom Remus. Lovely bit of engineering.
