Cam replacement advice

I have removed the rocker covers to check valve clearances today and have found the cams well worn and rough on the edges, I have managed to source some low mileage cams (5k) but I'm sure these are the soft cam opposed to the clatter cam. If I fit these will the car need mapping to suit or are they a straight replacement ?
