My understanding is thats the basic theory but its not reality. The air will be less dense due to heat build up. The thermal efficency of a rotrex for example is at best 78 percent . This depends on the boost ratio and the flow of air that the engine will take given its size. My 5.4L works out at around 70% with the rotrex C38-81, the 91 is a tiny bit better for mine, but not that much.so if your 4.6 is, say, 250 @ 8:1 NA, would give you 555bhp @ 18psi
So you could in theory get 78 percent of 555BHP, which is 430. Im sure theres more to it than that though!
You can add a good intercooler and gain some back, but it wont be 100% efficient, Im guessing maybe 85% is achievable, possibly a little more depending on the position and size of the intercooler.
A charge cooler would gain more back, as they are far more thermally efficent if you can get enough water in the system and a good water / air cooler.
But equally youll lose pressure through the intercooler/charge cooler, so again this has to be taken into account.
Of course this could be rubbish, but its my understanding.

This is true, the theory suggests a lower power than expected but my 4.6 with a c38 and nothing more than a couple of intake mods, slightly hotter cam and an emerald Ecu puts out about 400bhp. Ohh mine will produce 700BHP easily
well, it should get to 450-500 anyhow 
I have a little twist planned for mine. I dont know if it will work as yet, but I plan to use a waste gate on it to limit the boost. This should allow me to flatten the boost out earlier in the rev range to give me more low down boost without the risk of detonation.
Well, thats the theory! Worth a try, cheap enough to do too,

I was think a 300bhp chim for touring summer roof off and my cerb at 370bhp-ish for a track toy

It's easier to put the turbo over the sc.Place the SC in the valley and then have the turbo on top blowing into the sc. At least that how the coach engines I saw in Australia were configured. Best of both worlds and a most 'manly' bonnet bulge!
