We've had the chavviest car brand but how about the most sophisticated? Ironically, I would have said that Audi held this accolade up until the late 90s as the thinking man's alternative to a BMW/Mercedes but now it has become the new BMW (I think the TT, although a striking design was probably the tipping point). Until recently, I would have said that this vacuum was filled by Saab but with Saab gone, who will take up the standard?

Lexus? (Too Alan Partridge)
Jaguar? (well although I'm sure that it's a great car, the XF looks too much like a Lexus and the XJ is too angsta for my liking!)
Volvo? (The image is improving but still hasn't quite shaken off its slightly dull reputation of the 1980s)

I'm going to pitch Alfa Romeo out there. Classy name with some heritage to back it up, definitely not boring but not ovrtly flash and you rarely see a badly modified Alfa do you?

Going out of the mainstream, I would say Maserati (as long as it's not white with black wheels), closely followed by Aston Martin. Maserati just gets the nod as it's less popular with the footballing fraternity and although I like the DBS, the rear lights and interior have a faint whiff of Halfords about them!

So which car brand is the new thinking man's choice?

Maybe a bit "beardy" but you will never ever see one chavved, slammed, stanced etc....

Maserati and Aston are too in there with the hippty hoppity football diamond earring crowd. Not knocking them, but sophisticated is not how I would describe them.

Morgan is a good shout. The trouble with the traditional bastions of 'expensive' cars, is that incredibly rich new money buy them, and as such are not necessarily modified with what I would call taste. See any Gulzar Rolls or Kahn Rangie.

It is hard to think of a brand which is free from at least a model or element that go for the 'visible display of wealth' angle. (not precisely a hall mark of the truly sophisticated'.

How about Spyker? Different and capable, but would the diamond ear stud crowd even know what one was?

Perhaps if by 'sophisticated' you mean 'incredibly tacky' wink

Another nod for Morgan. Any car company which uses that much wood has to be a contender.

It's got to be Morgan. (and they are nowhere near as beardy as they used to be)

I agree with Morgan but is there a more mainstream (everyday) alternative?
