The two problems that come up seam to be clutch going early if abused and cam belt tentioners. In a car I used to drive it did get to the stage were the belt slipped. BMW did do the work for free but it still used mor oil than I would expect.

^^This, I think Bmw still say that using 1 litre of oil per 1000 miles is acceptable.

Try having a look at cars for sale on the MINI based forums, usually well looked after examples for sale wink

It's chain driven, at least the R56 is, but you're right some engines rattle on cold start because of the poorly designed tensioner. Mini have a cheap fix, they sometimes even do it under warranty.

To the OP, I would also consider the non-works 175hp car. Most of the added power is lost in traction anyway and the ride is even worse on the JCW.

They are considerably cheaper too.

I have had my fJCW for a couple of years now, fantastic car which I would highly recommend to anyone. Change in circumstances is forcing me to sell on which is a tough decision, if it's any interest to you...

I'll second that! I thought I'd clocked a few miles (almost 33,000) on my Factory JCW (bought from BMW, not dealer) - same colour, the best, ie Chilli Red and 'NO' bonnet stripes as yours. Registered Dec 08 but picked up Jan 09.

So, owned 3 yrs now and it's a hoot. Oil? Never topped up, not needed (only changed at Service).
Mine is going shortly too... only cos the warranty is up.
What for? For another of course!

Can't really have Chilli Red again, so this time it will be Pepper White FJCW with 'red' roof and mirrors.

Dealer has offered 13k, NO trade in!

My fjcw is wonderful, ultimate all round road car that is quick and fun to drive around (exactly what I wanted).

I would say my local dealer is completely useless though so a bit pointless me buying new.
