Question fo the car buffs, difficult I know but can anyone help?
I appologise this is a bit nerdy but..
What small light 5dr petrol hatchback, less than 5 years old, same size as Fiesta, has at least 80bhp/80 lb/ft torque and higher gearing in top than 21.6 mph/1000?
I want to LPG it too so it must be conventional petrol car (not direct injection or twin-air) and have a spare wheel well for the LPG tank even if its a space saver.
I currently run an Aygo LPG and would like another car for the wife, something similar with a bit higher gearing and a bit more power for the motorway.

Or if anyone knows where I can get a list of mph / 1000 for cars that would be useful?

At risk of being wrong... But I think the Panda 100HP fits those criteria...

ETA, nope, 6th isn't as long as i remember it apparently.

and... You're looking for a small car with the gearing to crack 140mph? Or have I misunderstood :S

100hp 6 speed.

is it worth the intial hassle of LPG esp when cars like this are very frugal anyway?

LPG on a aygo? can i stick a rock up your arse come and come back in 2 weeks for my diamond? wink

Between us we do around 40,000 miles p.a in these cars so ultimate economy is important. The Aygo does equivalent of 90mpg without having to drive carefully, which I never do.

Good call on the Yaris I'll check out the reviews, any more suggestions??

Thanks for the diamond suggestion, I'll give it a go. Should help me pay for the LPG :-)

Honda Jazz? I think anything with a longer top gear is going to be a bigger car with a bigger engine, and with longer gearing you won't be able to feel the extra power.

Get another Aygo.

Jazz has lower gearing than the Aygo and the Aygo economy suffers exponentially above 80mph, hence the higher gearing more power idea.
I wanted a Mazda 2 1.5 Sport but this also has lower gearing than the Aygo.

Mark, TBH I think you are going to struggle to get something with that sort of gearing on such a small engine really, my GF has a Yaris and that screams like hell at 80 MPH.

Are you the same Mark Punchard of CRX-UK fame?

Maybe a petrol Smart Forfour 1.3l? Not sure if it has 21.6 / 1000 in top gear though and it's only 5 gears unless automatic.

Re. gearing, does it make such a huge difference? ie. the Panda 100bhp.

I would gladly sacrafice 1mpg for the sake of driving a Panda 100 rather than a 'normal' city car.

There has only been one really good suggestion so far the 6 speed Yaris 1.3 TR. Seems it needs to be 2009 on for the 100bhp 6 speed model though but definately a good suggestion and it works out to 25 mph / 1000 if the figures given are correct. I'll try and get a test drive of one of these I think, but anyone got any other suggestions?

The Smart Forfour is out as it's a bit old and thirsty, not sure of the gearing though? and I've driven a Panda 100hp and although it was great fun down the lanes, for motorways the ride was very boingy and as I mentioned before the gearing is lower than my Aygo.
Yup, its me on CRX-UK, I have to save money on these everyday cars so I can fund my trackday habbit and other cars!

Thanks all for your input so far!
