I bought my cars knowing it required some work so I had a all new belts, tensioners, idler rollers, hydreulic tappets, new cams, and a full service on my 1988 944S 150 miles ago,and it didnt go as well as i thought it should have so I just took it out for a drive and i opened it up a little and hit the rev limiter at about 6800RPM, then obviously it held back and spluttered, but since then it seems to pull and be more responsive. HAS ANY ONE ELSE HAD THE SAME HAPPEN TO THEM OR ANY IDEA WHAT IT COULD HAVE BEEN PLEASE.
CHEERS.
Could its be a classic example of an ' Italian Tune up'. Give an engiine which has been ding too much low rev/speed stuff a good blast and it feels a whole load better.

The S doesn´t really do much below about 4k revs and can feel a bit guttless. To get the best you need to keep the motor spinning.
I think the ´88 cars had a primitive form of adaptive mapping in the DME too, so can take a bit of time after a reset to sort themselves out.
totally different engine/speed etc.....
my dad's discovery tdi got nicked yeas ago....
when he got it back, he said it was quicker...
probably cos they drove it hard whereas the old man used to just potter about in it...

Yep, mine was parked up for a while before I got it. A few tanks of Optimax, a few hard blasts, and a V-max day later have done her the world of good.
