Hi

What would you go for out of the Focus RS MK1 and MK2 and why?

I often see people commenting that they much prefer the mk1 for it's looks over the mk2, etc, but want to hear what everyone has to say on this topic.

Cheers

Having driven neither, I'd say on looks alone I prefer the Mk1. But the interiors nasty, I hate the blue leather bits on the seats!

Suppose it depends on if you want a nimble sublime handling hatch or a power munching monster.

Didn't the Mk1 suffer from really bad torque steer? MK2 is a great car in the dry especially with mountune upgrade. Although both are chavy in my opinion.

I'd love a mk1, I'd feel like a berk in a mk2.

MK1 every time. The MK2 is too big and heavy IMO. I've also read a number of reports regarding them not producing the full 300bhp. Not that i've ever driven one, mind.

I think the story was that the press reviewed cars that weren't final and the production set up was different. Not that I've had a go in either.

Mk 2. Mk 1 looks nice, Mk 2 has looks reminiscent of an Escort Cosworth.

Been a passenger in a Mk2 loads of times now. Staggeringly fast in a straight line, amazing grip in the bends and the owner reporting that the only car that has troubled him so far was a 500bhp M5.

However, the ride quality is rubbish, crashing over bumps, it looks like it belongs on the cover of Max power and it's a Focus that he bought new for £28k!!

Each to their own I guess...

On looks alone I'd choose MK2, it just looks mean and muscular to me.

Mk1.

For the £20k-£25k a mk2 would cost you could also have one of the following:

M3 CSL
S2 Exige
Z4M
Sierra Cosworth

All of which I would rather have over a mk2. Will be a lot of other cars that I would rank above it at that price as well which I can't think of at the moment.

I wouldn't pay more than 15k for a mk2.

OP is this purely hypothetical? They are both RS Focus variants but one is (roughly) double the price of the other...
