Hi all

I have recently purchased an Audi A5 3.0TDI Quattro Sport Coupe. It has 100,000 miles on and is out of warranty due to year (58) and mileage

I am looking to get an extended warranty to cover most of the bits that will hurt the wallet. I have been shopping around, and was offered a pretty good deal at Warranty Direct for £575 for 12 months or £675 for 12 months, if I wanted to get any issues fixed by a dealer

Any thoughts on Warranty Direct? They seem to be approved most places but wanted an opinion from those that probably know best! Also, is it worth the extra £100 to go with a dealer?

Thx in advance

May be worth checking the small print - I always thought most of them were only any good up to 100k miles.

Seeing as you didn't use the search button.....

Ask them all the questions you want and note down their answers. Then ask them to send you their policy wording.

Now read that policy booklet from cover to cover.

Now sit back and realise that when they answered your original questions they lied. A lot.

I did use the search facility smile

I have received the quote via e-mail and reading the policy at the moment

I found some Lurpak 'Speadable' Butter in the fridge last night in my drunken quest for some midnight toast and marmite.

Aftermarket Warranty companies are guilty of the same Misdescription.

When I bought my vehicle some 2 years or so ago I had a gold AA warranty on it for 12 months.
Within that 12 months I had 2 faults which exceeded by quite a bit what the warranty cost.
I never had any problems and never had to make any advance/excess payments.
The faults were fixed to my satisfaction and I did use the garage/dealer I bought the car from as they were listed as an approved AA warranty place. They handled everything.
I had no problems extending that warranty at the end of the term as I had received what I thought was a good no fault service.
AA warranty have since been taken over by car protect.Offering the same service as AA warranty.
I've yet to have any dealings with them,as it is the terms and conditions are the same as the AA warranty and hopefully if things do wrong I can expect the same good service I had before.

It is a minefield mind.

You will probably find that they will cover labour and a percentage of parts cost dependant on mileage.

I have a WD warranty on my 5 series, have claimed on it twice, couple of minor niggles about meeting the full cost, but generally found them to be OK.

They have certainly paid me more in claims than I have paid them in premiums and I'm probably about to drop another grands worth on them shortly!
