St Andrews - Harpenden - route advice

Leave St Andrews and take the coast road via Crail and Anstruther (pronounced Ainster) before Edinburgh. If you're doing 2 days stop for fish and chips in Anstruther - best fish and chips in Scotland!
Head south out of Edinburgh for Soutar and Biggar before doing a tad of dual carriageway to Carlisle.
Leave the motorway and head through the lake district past Ullswater and Coniston before putting up for the night at Abbey House at Barrow in Furness( excellent period hotel)
Tootle down to Manchester and take the road from Stockport out over the high peak to Buxton and Alfreton - head to Derby and Nottingham and pick up the A6 to Harpeneden
Then nip over to see me in Gaddeseden Row and say how it was!
