Citroen: we sold four C6s last year

Is Citroen's luxobarge about to fall from price lists? Citroen claims not

Citroen says it has no plans 'do a Renault' and axe its slow-selling larger models, according to a What Car? story.

What's particularly interesting about this, from a barge-loving PH perspective, is that the rather lovely C6 will remain on UK price lists. That's despite Citroen having only shifted four of 'em in 2011. That's 0.015 of a C6 per dealer. Imagine the commission on that...

According to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), Citroen's C6 count dropped from 52 cars in 2010, while the C-Crosser SUV found 634 homes two years ago, and just 45 new buyers in 2011.

But while Renault has been keen to slim down its UK range in light of poor sales of cars such as the Laguna, Espace and Wind, Citroen says it has no plans to do so with its own slower sellers.

But given such sluggish sales (and the fact that the SMMT shows that Citroen shifted fewer C5s in the UK than Renault did Lagunas in 2011), you'd have to worry for the future of the Gallic waftmobile...

It is an epic car though.

Eccentric, offbeat, a bit weird and all the better for it.

You would have to be quite mad to buy a new one. But they are splendid nevertheless.

I see them a bit like a modern, gallic, Bristol. Totally misunderstood by 99% of the population. This is why the C6 is a very, very cool car.

I'm strangely drawn to it, despite the possible costs that may occur.

...IMO the C6 is a great looking car, from the convex rear window to the details around the rear light clusters, but buying one new would be total madness...

A bit like the XM then (I remember an article saying they were selling as many 2CV as they XM's, and they stopped making the 2cv because of it).

I'm wondering what to get next, a Phaeton or a C6.

The C6 seems more and more appealing scratchchin

Agreed, but for me a 4 year old model was the perfect price. I do hope they do continue making them for a while longer, but then I'd need people to still be buying them next year if I were to replace mine with another 3-4 year old one in a few years time.

There is fear on the c6ownersclub.org forum that it might be replaced by the DS5 frown - for some one with a bad back, the magic carpet ride from that hydropneumatic suspension is part of the joy of the ride.

Four?! I love these, gorgeous lovely things, such a shame Citroen can't convince the public they're a good buy new.

Eh...4?! I must have seem every one ever sold in that case.

Hats off to citroen for keeping it going, takes some balls to keep marketing and supporting an entire model based on 4 sales.
