Hi guys
Currently own an Aston Martin V8 Vantage for weekend use and BMW 530i as daily driver.
Need 2 seats in the rear for when I pick up my 3 kids twice a week.
Looking at getting a 997 C2S or a BMW M6 as a daily driver.
What do you think and also what to look out for when purchasing a 2005/06 997 C2S.
Many thanks
Rich

i remember that episode, they said the M6 was monumentally fast but i think they went for the Porsche. Me personally.....Porsche because, and no one shoot me down on this, your Aston is probably closer to the M6 than the Porsche and if i was you i would want a bit more of a change going from car to car.
i ran a 997 c2s back in 2005/6 and it left me a little cold to be honest. i found it rather dull. i ran an E60 M5 for most of last year and found it highly entertaining and charismatic. and i would assume an M6 is a slightly more focused drive to the M5. of course the c2s would dust an M6 on a circuit or empty b road, but if you want that you'd be better off with a 996 GT3 comfort which someone had retro-fitted seats in the back of. try both and see what you feel, but if you do choose the beemer you'll be able to get one from a bmw dealer with a warranty and still save £10k over a similar vintage c2s. mind you considering how much fuel and oil they use, you'll probably need a fair old slush fund.

M6 super dull but quick, C2S much better buy from opc for peace of mind and to cover leaky engine;)
no ones more porsche than me but to call the v10 m6 super dull is very odd indeed . wheres rutkowski when you need him ?
you can get them really cheap now , they are turbo fast not c2s . they slide for england too .
Both very nice cars, m6 felt epically fast, beautifully finished, & has bags of road presence.
997 smaller & felt a lot lighter on its feet but just not in the same league of performance.
Very different experiences.
Mate had a v10 m5 that he used for track/ring before he got the gtr & it stood up extremely well to track use considering the weight, so they're not the big heavy barge they first appear to be.
One perhaps important point, I think you'll get a better buy of an m6 than a 997 for your money, say mid 20's will get you a fully serviced m6 at a BMW dealers with a full auc warrenty whereas the 997's at opc's will be about 5 grand more.

You have to love the internet.
Lots of chaps who know everything and simply refuse to back down or acknowledge an erroneous posture.
You simply cannot be serious.
Accelerating to that sort of speed invokes a veritable maelstrom of GT level malice; you can feel the whole drive train protest and writhe as the detonation unfurls.

I went from a 996TT to an M6 and then back to a 997C2S
M6 is epically fast, especially once you delve deep into 3 figures. In manual shift S6 P500 you can have a lot of fun in it.
C2S is much preferred by me - not as quick, but feels more involving an normal road speeds and a bit more sportscar than 'athletic gran tourer'
Rear sets a little better in the M6 if kids are over 8 years old, and on long journeys it feels more of a luxo saloon.
C2S will, IMO, put a smile on your face more often as you can enjoy over a wider range of speeds/roads etc.

I appreciate this is the Porsche forum and wouldn't wish to remotely undermine any credentials of the sublime icon, justifiably feted and revered - the 911 (which in GT3-RS form is pure, motoring nectar.)
However, this being PH an' all, the sort of asinine, dismissive drivel being spouted, above, is worthy of (a) attack and (b) revocation by the proposer.
Fwiw, the 911 is a sports car whilst the M6 caters for the GT fancier.
Neither is 'better;' they are both sublime.
Dim analysis should always be rooted out and shot.

You forgot "one dimensional" and "inarticulate" .... However, this being PH an' all, the sort of asinine, dismissive drivel being spouted, above, is worthy of (a) attack and (b) revocation by the proposer.
