Better all round drive, faster?
Assuming you are referring to a 996, then yes.MTR
It's best to drive both types and decide which you prefer and which suits your needs/wants better.

As said drive both as they are different cars but I had a similar decision to make and went for the Boxster, I just decided that at the end of the day the Boxster would give me a lot less of a headache and get something in good order rather than being a bit edgy. In fact I actually ended up buying something that was a fair bit below my budget and ticked the boxes too.
I bought a 2.7 986 in October and sold it when 'upgrading' to a 996 C2 last month. Here are the reasons:
I'm big. B I G big. The Boxster was very comfortable but a bit more room was useful.
I always wanted a 911.
The Boxster was almost fast enough for me but I think the 3.2 would have been more fun however I absolutely Loved the car and only changed to see the other side.
Now for the interesting bit...
In one important way the Boxster was more fun than the 911. Seriously. I could rev it all the time and hear that wonderful engine. If I do that in the 911 then I'm always going too quickly. In this respect, the smaller car is more 'frothy', chuckable, 'strap-on-able' (!) and fun.
I did 10,000 miles in 3 months of Boxster ownership and would recommend it to anyone.
I've done 5,000 miles in the 911 so far and...would recommend it to anyone :-)
i.e. not much help to you am I?
Best thing - drive both hard. I recon you'll know which you prefer in minutes but they're both wonderful, amazing, smiley superrrrrrrb cars.
