A track tyre is simply a road tyre with a high wear rate. So unless they come up with a universal grading system then I don't know how they'll manage it?

Maybe they'll just rule that all 'road' tyres must have a minimum of 8mm of tread from new, but that won't make any difference as track day goers will just get them shaved to 4mm or so, like some competition drivers do where the regulations ban track/competition tyres.

spoke to the yokohamma rep at auto sport and these type of tyres will be illegal come 2014 but not to worry they are working on replacments , apparently the fail the european aquaplane and noise tests .
