My wiper motor has now deceded that it has had enough.
I know I can go and buy a new one for £160 plus the VAT but I'd rather not do that!

We know that the basic motor is from a mini, therefore is there any way I can buy a basic mini wiper motor (what year etc) and use that to fix my wipers by replacing just he motor bit?

Also where is the control box?

Thanks

David

Sell a brush kit, do we think this would do the trick?

I would be inclined to take the wpier motor apart to see why it failed. I would check the serial number and talk to the mini people to confirm the model.
And then I would go forward.

I have to say in my life I have taken apart countless motors. And only in two was it anything other than the brushes. Well worth investigating.

Who says it is a mini one?

The motor is a Lucas unit IIRC which uses very similar housings for a variety of wiper units fitted to a variety of cars. Main differences are the power of the motor and the gearing inside. Get this wrong and the wipers will be all over the place.

As Julian says, check and double check. The common problem with them on Griffs and Chimaeras is the park switch/connector.

I had mine (in a Chimaera) reconditioned a while ago, I took it off and popped it in to the local startermotor/alternator recondioners and they sorted it out for about £50, shame it was actually a wire from the switch to the motor that had failed

Fair point, I have checked/cleaned the connector. The problem is the effort the wipers need to get over the screen. They are getting lazy. A few months ago as long as I was moving then they would work, if stationary then a little shove by hand to get them going and if I lifted the wipers off the screen they would work fine.
Now they will not move no matter how fast I drive, if I lift them off the screen the slugglishly move backwards and forwards.

I accept it could be down to the switch/connector but I think it is more likely to be the motor.

I don't have the luxury of being without the car for more than a weekend at the moment so I need to take the motor off, fix it and put it back.

I guess what I could really do with is an old Cerbera wiper motor to play with....Any offers?
