The Merc has got an "all singing and dancing" stereo in it that doesn't just play the radio and CD's, but has USB, I-pod, blutooth as well. Oh and it plays bloody DVDs through its own screen! Most important bit to me is that it controls the 12 disc cd in the boot.

Bit chavy to be honest and because it's all "touch screen" a right, royal pain in the arse to operate. Anyway, it's started to fk up and the screen goes blank and you can't do anything with it: change cd, change volume, put it on radio - nuffing!

Anyway, started ringing around yesterday for a replacement and problems: no modern stereo seems to be CD changer compatible as it's "old tech". So, having got tired of researching (only JVC do anything compatible and there was none around here) rang Halfords to be told that they have nothing that will do the job but a sale on Sony stereos at 50% off.

Fair enough....

So we wobbled off to Halfrauds this morning with the stereo hanging out of the dash and start looking at all the juicy new goodies. Chap comes out and starts helping us - telling us about each model etc. Then, out of the corner of my eye, I spot a JVC stereo with a screen and no obvious CD slot but manual controls...

"Will that do what I originally wanted?"
"No, I don't think so."
"Can we have a look-see?"

Of course, it's exactly what we need! Okay, it's another fancy thing with a screen, but manual controls with buttons (and a remote!) but all the slots in the back are identical to mine. £275 though.

So I chipped as it had a scratch on the top and a tiny one on the screen and got them down to £175. That'll do me!

Bloke rings it through the till and for some reason starts checking stuff and numbers on the unit....
"You're going to like this..." he says. £75!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yup, for some reason it was ringing through on their computer for £75 not £275. So I paid for it bloody quickly I can tell you.thumbup:grin:

Fitted it in their carpark and it's spot on - does exactly what I want, runs my 12 disc unit perfectly but looks a lot more "subdued" than the unit it replaced - just what I wanted.

Then, went and got some cash out, and asked for £40 and got £50 in notes!

Lottery ticket today?

Sounds a good day all round! Could sure use some of your luck with my car!

Genuine question, what model of Stereo is it? I'm after one to use with the standard Ford fit CD multi-changer. As yet, I haven't found anywhere that will tell me what models control a CD multi-changer.

Cheers!

Forgive me if I'm being a little slow, but you call it Halfrauds yet you get a stereo for £200 cheaper than it should be...?

Made my day that has. I'm sort of cool and a "Bro" what more could a sad, lonely old git need?

It's A JVC stereo KD axv11 (I think).

Anyway, luck just ran out. The wife had put a mucky mark on the passenger side mat so I took it out to clean it. Carpet shampoo didn't touch it so I thought I'd try "Brake cleaner". Sprayed it on my mat and was appalled to see that it was actually "Spray grease" - whoops! Karma bit me in the arse for calling Halfords (who I now love) Halfrauds. I apologise sincerely to one and all.

I work in a shop. Once in a blue moon, an item will have been reduced by mistake.

Hence someone walking out with a rather nice leatherman for a quid.
