Put a £500 deposit down on a used a3 at a main dealer on Monday, commented on the test drive about turbo being noisy, salesman said he would get service department to check it. He rang to say that it is noraml, but I have looked into it and it seams turbo is nackered, so if I ring tomorrow to say I don't want the car will I loose my deposit, or can I say car is not fit for purpose?

How have you looked into it without having the car? The dealer is within his rights to keep the deposit; you can only get the money back from SOGA if the car goes wrong once you have bought it. However, given the potential issue, you may be able to negotiate the deposit back from the dealer.

*lose* FFS, not "loose". Loose is when your shoelaces become undone.

...and *seems*...and *knackered*

Good grief.

"noraml" I can accept as a speeling mistook.

...and it's probably "Not of merchantable quality" rather than "Not fit for purpose".

I'd be wanting it back, you said that the turbo was noisy, he said he'd get it looked at and has now come back to say nothing he can do.

If it was normal then he should have known that really...

I'd definitely be arguing for it back!

If it blows it'll be covered under the warranty.

Audi dealers have twice been perfectly happy to give me a deposit back for nothing more serious than a change of mind (or rather, a loss of nerve once, and a girlfriend angry at the choice I'd made, once). smile

I assume the car is still with the dealer as you have not yet bought it? If so, how did you look into the turbo issue?

Buy it, drive like every other Audi driver slightly under warp speed until the turbo blows up then get a new one for free!

I'd shoot all the pedants first, long before the peeps who comment, quite innocently, on this forum.

My 02' 1.8T A3 has always made a whistle from 2k revs when accelerating hard since I got it almost 2 years ago. It's audible but doesn't sound like a police siren, and as soon as I take my foot off the accelerator it stops. I've done 25k miles in it, including a long trip to the south of France in it last year, no problems. I've read up on it and wondered if it was on its way out but it hasn't got any louder or different.

Is it a 1.8t or a tdi your looking at?

It's a 2.0tdi and sounds like a quiet police siren.

Arhh, before my Audi I had a 55 plate Jetta 2.0 tdi 140, that didn't whistle or sounds like a police siren, it was silent. I'd walk away.

Just tell the dealer you asked the knowledgable PH masses and we said its goosed.

Good luck getting your 'loose' deposit back OP.

Yes but they said that they would look at it, and being a main dealer I thought they would sort it.
