insurance is SHITE!!!

You really thought that a RWD (leaf spring, 1970s locks, no immobiliser) Capri 2.0 was going to be reasonable insurance for a 17 year old who had just passed their test?
I'm pretty sure a Capri 1.6 is going to be about 12p cheaper. Go and see how much the insurance is for a Fiesta 1.1 and take it from there. Try adding your parents on your insurance policy quote, it can drop it by a few valuable percent.

That is a valid point. Im 28 and still add my Dad to my policy as a named driver to get a few quid off. I think it made it about £60 cheaper this year. Not a lot of money but better in my pocket than theirs.http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

If you start off in a Capri you'll grow to hate it. And I love 80's Capris (I remember my dad having a 3.0L and a 2.8i when I was a wee lad). The seating position, the heavy clutch, the handling, the gruff engine etc etc. Plus they're not the easiest ownership proposition these days either. You'll be struggling with the same things my old man was struggling with over 20 years ago and asking yourself 'why?'.
As much as I love the Capris, they'd be a nice garage beauty for high days and dry days but as an every day, good grief no, I wouldn't dare.
Insurance may be the biggest issue though. Quite frankly, it's not going to get any cheaper, especially if you're asking for the car to be valued anywhere near what it's worth. Most 17 year old struggle with Micras and Clios. You are not ready for the Capri yet.
My nanna always tells a story of when my dad injured his hand at work and needed driving to hospital. She had to drive his 3.0L Capri to the hospital, with it's clutch that needed a tonne of pressure to depress, and how the car kangarooed off down the street when she pulled away from a stop!
