2nd hand would be the cheapest option, loads of everything available on www.oople.com

Do not buy second hand Lipo's. Waste of money, Get cheapies from Giantcod.co.uk, you can also get chargers and other stuff from there. Radio kit can be bought second hand but be careful as there is a lot of ste about. For the type of radio you need its cheap enough to buy new tbh.

Ok, not knowing a thing about lipo , 7.4v for cars yes? What about mah? I see that the price range is massive, is there a major difference?

Anyone recommend one they have used or using?

Are you planning on racing or just bashing?

Not sure why 2nd hand lipos have been dismissed by the other poster, I use 2nd hand ones and they are ok for me.

I've got the saddle versions of these and they are great http://www.jespares.com/electric-models?page=shop....

What is it for, racing or bashing? The Orions shown are good but overkill for a 2wd for racing IMO.

yep, racing, used to run a cat 3000 on nimh's, now the club is mostly 2wd, this will be my first 2wd car, so a big learning curve ahead!!

Most of my stuff is dated now, ie acoms 27mhz controler

Ah ok, nothing wrong with using the 27mhz to start with, your unlikely to get any glitches or crystal clashes due to most people having moved over to 2.4Ghz.
You will need a metal geared servo due to the lack of a servo saver, I've got a savox like this one http://www.jespares.com/electric-models?page=shop.... or you could try a SC-1251MG which is a little smaller and cheaper but the gears arn't quite as strong.
For a Lipo you need 7.4v and you would probably be better off with a saddlepack set in case you change configuration, a lot of the cougar drivers I know are using the saddlepack setup now. Anything over 3000mah will be ample for 2wd, I use between 1600 - 2000mah for a 5min race and a few warm up laps in 2wd. The C rating is the 'punch' of the battery and anything over 30c is fine for 2wd. I've got these http://www.jespares.com/electric-models?page=shop.... and they're great in my 4wd but they're simply overkill in my 2wd.
For a speedo and motor, well i like the ORCA speedo's and LRP motors, something like a 8.5 or 7.5 wind will be about right depending on the make.

To be fair I fly fixed wing and heli's so wouldnt touch second hand lipo's. Not worth the risk! For cars it may be a little different. However you have no idea of the history of the battery and if its been misused.

Your call I guess!

I'd also be against buying second hand lipos, unless you are buying from a reputable source. You want to make sure the previous owner hasn't abused the lipos and charged them at the wrong charge rate. That can make then dangerous

If you buy saddles you can use them in place of a stick pack but not the otherway around, as a lot of the latest cougar setups are using saddlepack chassis it makes sense to start with saddles in case you change to them at a later date.

If your gonna race then go and say hello on oople, lots of advice on there.

Yes two saddles end to end are the same size as a stick, you only need to keep an eye on the heights as these sometimes vary but most are 24.5mm

One set of Lipos will be fine for anything except the busiest of club meetings, 20 mins between rounds is ample to top them up, hell you can do another round without charging them and you won't even notice any performance drop off.
I returned last year after a 14 year break, the last time i raced we were still using 1700scrc cells and the XX4 had just come out and honestly Lipo and brushless is fantastic, just balance the cells every couple of charges and make sure you don't run them flat and you will be fine.

Silverstones my local club, so most of my racing is in the mid south and mid west region, last big meet I did was Area 51.
