Blew the engine due to a blocked radiator coming home from Le Mans (temp. sender on the cool side of the blockage) and am trying to think of an engine that will fit...one that fits well with the PH ethos of "You can never have too much power"

Please help with suggestions...

...so far I am liking standard engine back in the front, and a second one to drive the rear wheels just behind the front seats.

Ah ok, Im not up on Volvos.

If thats the case Id chuck another standard lump in it and if you want more power, then bigger blower and or remap.

Anything elese is possible depending on pocket depth and/or ability with hammers/spanners.

T5 motor with some forged rods and a big Holset turbo.

I imagine you will decimate front tyres but what a way to do it smile

If not a slightly hotter T5 block, a V8. As I'm sure you know, people have put LS V8s in them, but if you really wanted to throw some silly cash at it, do what Noble did with the 4.4 V8, or find someone breaking a XKR.

Although it's fwd, there were awd 850s, so it's not impossible.

Definitely keep it a 5 cylinder. Keeps the character of the car. IMO ofcourse!

Forge it, decent turbo set up, keep it looking like it is for the ultimate sleeper! Bit like this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ew6YwIN2IQcsmokin Smokkaaayyy

awd maybe, but 'fwd' style Haldex system, so still with a transverse engine layout.

Only way you're going to get a V8 to work is converting it to rwd.

Either you're going to use your imagination, or you're going to fit another Volvo engine wink

i realise that, just thought it might illustrate that a transverse v8 is possible and what better way than to do that than use a volvo.

Gotcha. It'd just involve a heck of a lot more shoehorning than the S60/V70 R engine for similar power. That would be the ideal one to use though I agree as it was designed from the outset to be installed transversely.

I wasn't thinking about a transverse V8!

06/55 with av miles books at £6700 - that seems a lot even though list was £40k...
