Early 19th Birthday present to myself .....
Discussion
Never thought I'd say this but I have bought a "fast" Audi instead of an ///M car.
So a week ago "conveniently" one of my neighbours tells me he is selling his sons S3 for him due to him moving to NZ. I um'd and ar'd for literally 2 seconds and responded "ok I'll take a look", fatal mistake number one : I drove it before getting an insurance quote (ended up costing me an extra grand
). Needless to say I fell in love ! Drives great, fairly quick twinned with a fantastic interior with Bose stereo etc .........The only way I could justify it was to employ simple teenage logic and tell myself it is an early Birthday present (6 months early to be precise)
Got it for a good price, just had nearly 2K spent on it in the last 2000 miles :
-New passenger window mechanism
-New Genuine VAG parts Down pipe
-Service
-Power steering pump
-Oil return pipe to the turbo
-Cam cover gasket
-ARB Bushes
-Ball joints
I have it booked in for Tuesday to get precautionary work done :
-Cambelt
-Water pump
-Haldex 4wd service
(hello first £500+ bill)
My private plate "W888CKO" will be trans'd to it asap.
Other future plans are to get the wheels refurb'd when (if) summer arrives and possibly a cheeky remap.

18.5 y/o and you have (have had) all those cars!? What's the insurance like on the S3 out of interest? Must be nuts. What do you do for a living, I think I need a career change!
Jealous, yes.
Still own them all, the insurance on the S3 has cost me an extra £1000 so overall I've paid just shy of £2500 this year. Employment : As little as possible. Jealous, yes.
I'll be selling the Volvo and Astra then probably buy something like a 190E Cosworth.
Just been for a drive for the hell of it (never really done that before) one of my favourite twisty roads and the car is just awesome, not as quick in a straighline as the Volvo but more grip and 200% more traction when exiting the corners. No real understeer is allowed with ESP on so it just grips and fires you out the other side of the corner. However there is still a Slight blow on the exhaust which I will get sorted on Tuesday when in for other work.
Well I'm off for a pint now, it's been an exciting day.

Nice car for a 19 year old! Re: your 190e cosworth plans, make sure you drive one before you buy, IMO nowhere near as sharp as an E30 325
Cheers, I'm 18 at the moment..... Not 19 until the End of June.
I prefer the 190E to a non M E30 only thing that competes is a proper ///M Car which is fortunes more.... Fancy owning a 190E Cos' for some reason.
190 Cosworth is a lovely car, very much a fan, good ones can be hard to find so as already pointed out, have a look at a few; it might be worth seeking out some buying guides on them, i am sure the Mercedes Enthusiast magazine will have done one.
As for the S3, enjoy it in good health, my primary school head teacher had a facelift 225 '02 S3 in Silver, was lovely and gawped at it every day. Having just managed to land a business apprenticeship, i would be looking to get something sporty in around 2 years time, fast Audi had crossed my mind so i will be following your ownership experience closely. As already mentioned, enjoy it and have a lot of fun
