Diesel engine fuelling

Anybody know how modern Turbo Diesel engines regulate the fuel injected. Do they use an air flow meter or are they mapped on an assumed mass air flow ?
Can you check how rich the mixture is by looking at the co and how clean it is burning with hydrocarbons like a petrol engine.
What's the problem ?Can you check how rich the mixture is by looking at the co and how clean it is burning with hydrocarbons like a petrol engine.
Modern diesels ( of course, depends how modern ) do use airflow meters and temperature and all the same sensors as a petrol engine really.
You can monitor mixtures with a wideband if you desire, although what you will see is largely irrelevant as diesels are pretty much always a very lean running engine. They dont target specific AFR's the same way a petrol would.
No idea on whether a typical gas analyser would read any hydrocarbons from a diesel.
And no diesel engine runs clean, they are all dirty even if the dirt isnt visible.
