And the throttle response is so much better, the supercharger whine is more pronounce and seat of the pants , feels more spritely.
Having had a K&N panel filter in the car, mate had an almost new 57i kit hanging in his garage, as swopped it for the GTT kit. So took it off his garage shelf and swopped it over. Only took 30 mins to do and was worth doing if anyone considers it.

How old was your old filter though ?

The panel filter was about 1000 miles old and was mint when I took it out.

I didn't think the JCW cooper S had a panel filter? I thought they had a cylinder filter like the one below.



Is there any sort of heat shield with the K&n filter as the engine bay gets very hot in the S and you don't want to be sucking in the hot air if you can avoid it.

Not all jcw's came with the round filter, that was an extra mod, I believe. The K&N lies inside the old filter box, minus the lid, so gets the air still from the original pipes in the lower box. We'll see when it gets warmer in the year whether it still works OK.
