Stupid question re part exchanging

Bit of a wally question, so I'll apologise first.

I am thinking of chopping my R8 in for a cheaper range rover sport (My circumstances have changed, I want the range rover and I could do with a few quid in the bank)

The question is would a franchised dealer be willing to take a car in part exchange for a cheaper car and make the difference up with cash?

Anyone got experience of this or am I being a bit of a bellend?

and generally they will offer you bottom book for it and try to earn as much as possible

you may get a better deal chopping it against an audi Q as the R8 is a car the dealer can show which gives it more value to them, or try to find a franchise that has audi and range rover

or even a high end private dealer that offers 4*4s and sports cars

ALL dealers will aim to get the trade in at bottom book or below. They may well dicky it up with some of the discount available from the car you're buying.

Why dealers MAY offer less in a situation like this is that they will seek to get the car underwritten by another trader / dealer, and possibly take a cut on the way through.

For example, my wife went to look at a new Z4 35i last year - trading in a year old Subaru WRX-S - the BMW dealer simply got the car underwritten by the local Subaru dealer - and no doubt was taking a 'handling charge' on the way through.
