I have been meaning to do mine, principally because they look like they could do with a really good scrub and some shiny new heat proof paint. I also suspect there may be a tiny crack in the off side as I can hear a very slight tapping from that area.
Does anyone know the proper neame for those 'smoke bombs' that can be put up the exhaust pipes and pressurise to identify any cracks in the system?, and indeed where they are sold? I keep putting the job off because I have heard so many stories of people sheering the bolt heads off.

Pay someone.
At ~£100/side it will be the best money you can spend to preserve your knuckles, sanity and dignity.

If your pre cats are still in i would ask them to remove them while the manifolds are off ,more free revving, nice exhaust note and no problems when it comes to MOT time.

Never thought of that, might ask them to remove them now. What diffence does it make to the sound, I have sleeved my exhaust already.

when I did mine I cut notches out of the lower bolt holes so they slot straight on should you need to remove in the future it is loads easier

The pre cats do tend to block up in time ,if you remove the pre cats you will have a power increase and you still have the main cats which will keep the exhaust note sweet..Its a must if you have removed the manifolds. Sometimes they fall out , useing a long screwdriver ,chisel and drill they should fall out within the hour..
