My 2004 passat 130 tdi was bought 18mths ago with 117k. Now on 134k and since purchase has had a small clutch kidder which has not worsened. However, today I noticed under hard acceleration in 4th, and almost in 3rd, it has begun to slip.

Once slipping begins how long do these tend to last, and are they financially ruinous should I need to replace? Will I need to replace the dual mass flywheel?

Don't last long when they start to slip - I guess with the dual mass flywheel then it would make sense to replace - If its not worn then you could leave it but at 130+k it would be worth replacing - the last one I replaced was on a Volvo c70 and it cost the owner approx 1000quid - £600 of which was spent on parts - dmf's are expensive!

A few of the lads at work with mk4 golf 130tdis are all around the 130k miles to and have just had their clutches and dual mass flywheels done. They reckon it was quite impressive to get 130k out of them!

One did the replacement of both clutch and dual mass for parts only, cost him £350, and others had the garage do
It for circa £700-800.
